Remote Working Using Microsoft Terminal Services Home > Networks > Kerio MailServer > Draytek Vigour Routers > HP ProCurve > Microsoft Terminal Services No matter whether your FileMaker solution is hosted or used by Windows or Mac OS X, the introduction of a Windows Server running Microsoft Terminal Services enables remote workers to use FileMaker at network speeds even over relatively slow ADSL broadband connections. Using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) software on either a Mac or PC enables all FileMaker application processing to take place on the local network with only the video, keyboard and mouse information being sent/received by the client computer. In this way FileMaker's navigation, sorts, finds, scripts and reports run almost as fast as if the computer were connected directly to the server's network. This thin-client technology can also benefit systems being run on a LAN. A VLA (volume license agreement) copy of FileMaker with appropriate number of licenses can beinstalled on a terminal server and all users will access this. Therefore all maintenance is carried out on the single sever, rather than at each desktop computer. Printing can redirected to local printers and local desktops can be accessed to transfer files, such as PDFs created by FileMaker. However, it is important to get the server specification right, the more the system is centralised, the more important to build in redundancy and to size the server accordingly. Please contact us if you'd like to know more about using FileMaker Pro 9 with Microsoft Terminal Services. |
